- Point the sextant to the horizon in the direction of the Sun. The horizon is visible at left, through the glass, and also at right, reflected by the two mirrors. The index arm is at the zero position. Puntare il sestante verso l'orizzonte in direzione del sole. L'orizzonte è visibile a sinistra attraverso il vetro, e anche a destra, riflessa dai due specchi. Il braccio mobile è nella posizione 0.
- Press the clamp to release the index bar. Premere il morsetto per rilasciare il braccio mobile.
- Rotate the index bar to bring the reflected image of the Sun to the horizon. Ruotare il braccio mobile per portare l'immagine riflessa del sole all'orizzonte.
- The lower limb of the Sun is now almost touching the horizon. Release the clamp and adjust the sun's position with the micrometer. La parte inferiore del sole è ora quasi all'orizzonte. Rilasciate il morsetto e regolate la posizione del sole con il micrometro.
- Swing the sextant to verify the sun's position (adjust if necessary). Muovete il sestante per verificare la posizione del sole (regolare se necessario)
